I own a 1999 AU Ford Falcon Forte and ive noticed if i hold out in 1st gear and begin 2 accelerate i can hear a whine from the diff, well i think its the diff. i kno that it only happens in 1st gear. Does anyone with an AU or any other falcon experience this? or is it just my car.
the diff ratio is 3.08
Another thing is, is the diff a LSD or just an open diff? The reason i am asking this is because, while i was doing foot on brake once, both wheels were spinning. Then another time the car was turning while i was doing a burnout( thats turning, not having the car sideways) and it left a single spinning mark. now wats going on? can anyone tell me why my car does this?

There should be an id tag on the diff, hanging off one of the diff casing cover bolts. Alternatively you can jack the rear up and spin the wheels, if they are locked together (i.e. both spin same direction and speed) you have an lsd.

Yeah, my EF futura makes a bit of a whine but only in first. I am sure it is only the gearing, a bit like most cars whine when you cane them in reverse.
if it lonly left a single mark then i'd say open diff. it'll leave two when your foot is on the brake -if one wheel cant drive, the other does, but it's happening on both so they both spin.
How could rebuilding the diff fix the whine when its coming from the auto?ALL ford auto do it in first gear you cant fix it ,You could replace the auto with a manual that would fix it.You have nothing to worry about.
