The temperature gauge in my I6 EF falcon has been creeping up close to hot of late. It actually likes to sit near the O in normal. I've checked the thermostate and temperature sensor which are both within specs, there are no coolant leaks, no blown head gasket and the water pump is fine. the only thing I can think of is a faulty temperature gauge. Has anyone ever encountered this problem before? I'm not that concerned as there are no apparent signes of overheating, it just feels odd as until recently it used to sit between the MA in normal. I welcome any comments.
What you need to do is take your radiator to a good radiator specialist and get it thoroughly cleaned. Do not use any of those coolant additives because they do **** all. The radiator core needs to be professionally cleaned and serviced. If you don't mind paying over $200, get yourself a new radiator.
After that, buy a new thermostat especially if it's never been changed before or at least not for a while. Get a good quality coolant (don't be a tightarse in this area) because a good coolant makes a big difference.
In the end make sure you bleed the air from the cooling system properly.
yeah ive got the same probly with my ED mont, driving up hill with the air con on made the temp gage up up heaps! im going to try changing the coolent first, how much do u think a radator clean would cost?

Thanks guys, some very good advice given. However, I have already replaced the radiator, thermostat and coolant and the fans work fine. I have noticed since my last post that the heater works when the engine is warmong up but stops working when it hets hotter. I suspect the problem my be with the heater valve or hoses which I will check on the weekend. I'll keep you all posted re: the results.

LPG or straight petrol?
Either way, sounds like an air block...bleed the sucker properly.
Coolant and thermostat should be replaced every 12 months. Coolant should be 30%.
If this does not cure the problem, a thorough inspection of when the fans cut in needs to be done....you could quite possibly have a dodgy temp sender.....from memory there are two..one for the guage and one for the computers.

Sounds like maybe the water pump ?
two kinds of impellor one tends to run warmer than the other , did you change it recently ?
