blower motor to fan 96 explorer

I determined it was the blower motor that needed replacing, I removed
the four screws (one difficult to say the least!), and the motor will
not fit coming out. I think I need to remove the fan from the motor
while in the housing, then the motor will slide out on an angle. Does
the fan screw on to the motor, or just slide off (with some pressure).
I can't see any screws holding it on, but then I can't get it out all
the way.

thanks!

The much easier way to get it out is to unbolt and set aside the cruise
control servo & windshield washer / coolant tank assembly.
