Re: V8 torque

I just stumbled across this thread by accident, I do a lot of turbo stuff, and have a couple of mates with Supra's, one of them is a TRD fancy pants one, and I even have a customer with a 2JZ in his Escort, but I find it really hard to believe that a stock Supra with an exhaust cooler and a boost controller would run 10.18.

No offence but I would really love to see that time slip, and under $15,000 thats prety hard to believe.

That Escort is a full chassis race car, with basically a Crower engine, he has run 8.77, and can run 8.50's but it don't weigh 1500kg. it would take an engine like that to push a 1500kg car into a low ten, and 147mph, well it would need even more of an engine! I can tell you there is more than $15,000 tied up in the escort engine.

I've been racing for 16 years, and my current car runs 9's, it weighs 3300lb which is basically 1500kg, and I know I've got 650hp at the tyres, with everything set up for the track. So for a 1500kg car to run 10.18 with a manual, at 147mph you would need about 820hp at the tyres, and at 140mph you need to fit a chute (standard drag rules).

I haven't seen to many supra's with chutes.

Next problem would be finding traction with the IRS, I use to run a 280ZX with a chev on the bottle, we had to make our own tripple rate springs to get the car out of it's own way, so to think that the factory suspension would carry a car down the quater for a 10.18, well it's just hard to believe, I know of a couple of ten second ones over here, but they ain't standard, and $15,000 well, I think they would have spent more than that on their turbo/intercoller plumbing!

Like I said I would love to see that time slip, and if it has run it, really how stock is the car and the engine.

Oh and BTW, they don't make to 2J's anymore, but they do make the 4.0L Ford Turbo's !!!!!
