'94 'Boid and Junkyards

Re: '94 'Boid and Junkyards

I belong to '94 TBird LX V8, 61k mi.

No, I'm not gonna put the 'Boid in the junkyard. Not yet.
I am occasionally tempted ... :-)

True or False:

If ya call a junkyard and ask if they got a part for, say,
a 1981 <whatever>, they'll likely say something like "We
don't keep 'em on the yard that old. They're all crushed
and scrapped".

If ya call a junkyard and ask if they got a part for, say,
a 1994 <whatever>, they'll likely say something like one
of the following:

1.) Yeah, we got one.
2.) No, but we get 'em periodically. Try next week.
3.) No, but whasshisname over yonder might have one.

Suppose, now, that a Po' Soul was financially challenged,
and needed to run his ThunderChicken until the wheels
fall off (the TB -or- the Po' Soul, whichever comes
first).

Question becomes "What parts, on the '94 'Boid with 4.6 L and
4r70w ("SHIFT, DAMN YOU!!!") tranny are likely to require
replacement in the second 60k mi. that the PS hopes to get
outa the vehicle"?

Already the seal between the plastic and aluminum radiator
parts appears to be failing. Dunno if this would be a
good candidate for junkyard purchase: maybe buy a rad.
cheap and install new seals?

What is it likely to take in the way of repairs to keep
a '94 TB LX V8 (that is flawlessly maintained and always
babied) reliable from 61k mi. to 120k mi.? How much of it
should a Po' Soul be thinking of buying this year or next
and before the junkyards start crunching everything older than
1995?

And when is the 4r70w likely to fail if it is given the
easiest usage and the best maintenance possible? I already
figger it'd cost maybe 3 times the value of the car to
rebuild at, say, 100k mi. I've been putting maybe 4k mi.
per year on the car.

Any/all help/advice much appreciated.

Prost,
Puddin'
