Re: XE Gearbox into EF

Hi guys, to answer the original question, the gearbox you most likely have is the equivalent to a single rail box like they had in falcons from the early seventies (I think). The difference is that it has 5 cogs instead of four. They were very common behind 200 crossflows in XE and XF falcons. It's easy to identify by the big "5" raised in the outside of the main (cast iron, not alloy) body. It's definately not a T5 and I'm pretty sure it won't bolt up where a T5 will. As for their strength, they seem to handle a warm crossflow in an offroader OK, but the physical size of the actual body tells me that there's not too much guts in the whole unit. A bonus is that they are really cheap, a good second hand one will set you back about $150. We carry two spares!
If you're in computer avoidance mode, I'm told that Hadfields do a C4 conversion bellhousing to fit up a V8 C4 to a modern 6, perhaps they do one for a toploader!?.
Cheers!
