Brake + ABS Light stay lit 1997 F150 4x4

Problem: Brake light and ABS light stay lit
I'm not sure if it is coincidence or related to the problem but a few weeks ago we had a few days in a row where it was raining heavily. A few days afterwards I noticed that my brake light and ABS light were lit all the time.
I have had a sensor go bad on a 93 explorer before so I didn't think much of the ABS light but the brake light is what scares me.
The brake fluid seems to be full and the brakes seem to be in working order. I checked the reference manual and it does not state anything about both lights being lit.
Should I be worried, do I need to take this into the shop to get checked out?
Are there some steps I can take on my own to try to asses the situation first?
