New to Me 89 Bronco XLT
I'll keep it short, simple and unorganized.
I picked up an 89 XLT 302 for a good amount. Has a decent amount of mods in terms of engine. It has an aftermarket cam (unknown specs though) and I can definately tell it does. Sounds similar to my old E303 I had tossed in my 92 Mustang Coupe years back. Of course, you can't tell any cam from another by the sound/lope. In addition, a Pro-M 77 i believe and some 24lb injectors set into an Edelbrock Performer upper and lower truck plenum.
According to the driver side door tag, the gear ratio seems to be a 3.55.
My problem 1:
The truck has NO BALLS from a git go. I think this is mainly due to the type of cam installed. From 3k on up, I can feel her pull...I just don't think for the type of off-road, on-road use it's good for me. I'll see what I can do, but do you have any recommendations?
Question 1:
I am installing a Rough Country 4" Suspension lift with rear springs on newly purchased BFG Mud Terrains 33x12.5x15 on a set of 15x8 "steelie" wheels. With that in mind, do you guys recommend the use of maybe a 4.10 setup for rear gears?
Note: I don't know if the Bronco uses the 8.8 and be that as it may, i've been too lazy to look and actually pay attention. If so, I know exactly where I can pick up the gears/shim/installation kit CHEAP!
Problem 2:
I noticed a lot while coming into my neighborhood I hear a good amount of clinking/clanking until I press the brake pedal no more than 1/2" inward from resting position. This IS coming from the front. My assumption was that maybe new wheel bearings were in need?
Question 2:
Fuel delivery-I don't know what type/size/lph fuel pump is in tank so dependant on what you guys say I'll make a decision. I was pondering a 255lph intank and eliminate any inline there may be. I'll leave this alone though for a while.
Aside from the 4" suspension lift from Rough Country and my 33x12.50's, you guys recommend anything? Any pointers, hello i'm _____, here are a few things to look out for?
I've owned many Ponies (Mustangs) in the past including 302, 331, 347 powered as well as A 281 modular powered 99 GT but this would be my first full size Ford SUV owned just for fun purposes. I'm very knowledgable about the 302 and the mods to support but in terms of off roading and axles, transfer cases...I know nothing.
Hope everyone's had a good week, its time for bed and back to work after a 5 day weekend.
