I am looking for every bit of help I can get. My daughter's Ford Escape has reached 84K miles and approximately two months ago began stalling intermitently when attempted to be placed in any gear (Drive or Reverse). Tipically, it would ride for days without any problems from San Diego to Temecula (approx 60 miles). She would park the car and go to work. After several hours, the car would start but once placed in Reverse or Drive, it would stall out.
Interestingly, the car would start the day after as if nothing happened the night before. After the first time this happened, the car has been to the dealer in San Diego seven times and of course, the dealer has not been able to duplicate the discrepancy. So far, I have paid to clean the ejectors, fuel filter change, transmission fluid change and flush, throtle body valve, and many other things that have not fixed the problem.
I have been reading all the posted messages regarding similar situations in the past, but I have not been able to determine what actually fixed the problem for others.
This car was purchased new and I have taken it to the dealer for everything required throughout the years. The dealer techs in San Diego are fixated with the theory that somehow the transmission or the converter have something to do with this problem. I am no expert but I have worked on jet engines for 28 years and somehow I do not see the relation ( not saying that it is not possible) but I would had believed that perhaps it would be more in the line of a faulty electrical signal to or from the computer or one of the many sensors that feed the system. I do know that the last check of the car battery did not show a healthy battery. I will ask my daughter to buy a new battery this weekend ( although the car cranks up fine ).
The car seems to work flawlessly until the very moment that the it comes to a stop while on Drive and begins to hessistate and subsequent stall. once this happens, it would stall evey time you try to put it on gear.
So far, my daugther has been able to leave it resting overnight and it starts right up the next day as if nothing had happened. How could a faulty transmission manifest itself as such?
The dealer is giving the car back to my daughter tomorrow and they have not done anything to it, nor do they have any idea of the root cause of the problem (other than unofficially suggested a transmission problem) I have asked my daughter to take the car to a transmission place and ask them to take a look at it to see if indeed, the transmission or converter is faulty.
Please help!!!!!!!!
