first of all, i'm new here and this is my first post.

i have a problem on my fiesta that the gear lever doesn't return to neutral when the lever is moved left or right. it's not too much of a problem but makes it a bit of a pain in the ar$e to drive, as 2nd to 3rd has to be thought about a bit.

anyway, i read somewhere that there was a selector spring that snaps and it's a cheap replacement that ford charge alot for. so i went under my car, pulled the linkage apart where the stick comes through to the underneath, only to find no spring. it appears to be on the other end of the linkage inside the gearbox.

anyone had this problem before and know how to resolve it. it appears that the solution i had intitially thought, appears to be on zetecs and not on my car. i don't really want to have to take the gearbox out to replace a spring but will probably have to do something about it soon.

by the way, its a '99 fiesta finesse (hence the username), the 1.3 endura engine.
