I have seen similar things before, the problem is that things expand when hot causeing intermittant connections. The first thing I would suggest is to try the easy things first before getting to complicated.
I had a similar issue on my XR6T and it turned out to be the terminals on the Starter Motor were not tight. That Simple ! Disconnect the posative side of your battery and then climb under the LHS behind the front wheel to the back of the Starter. Tighten all connections including the earth.
Apparently Ford does not feed their mechaninc enough Weeties in the morning.
