Short answer: Yes, eventually.
If you modify the engine without upgrading the gearbox you'll blow the box up. It's not so much the extra power as the extra torque that damages them. Keep in mind that when Ford released Typhoon, which has only 30-40 kw more than a stock turbo, it was only sold as a manual, precisely because the 4 speed box could not handle the extra torque.
