97 exlporer xlt SOHC new tranny!?!
Hi. I have a 1997 explorer xlt v-6 SOHC 252k on odometer. Whenver I get above 50 or 60 mphs and take my foot off the gas the engine makes a terrible noise and is having trouble downshifting. I am also unable to put the vehicle in reverse. It makes a loud noise and wont shift into reverse. I went to Aamco and they want $1700 to $2100 to rebuild the transmission.
With this many miles I don't feel it is worth it anymore. Are there some other options I can explore? I'm considering dumping the car for $500 on craig's list and buying a different vehicle. I am really bummed out that the dream of owning an explorer is over with.
