Ummmmm.... Rule #1 - NEVER buy a first-production-year vehicle. Give 'em a year to get the wrinkles out.... maybe 2 years (look at the first 2 years of the 6.0 compared to the rest of the production run). Although there haven't been any extraordinary failure problems yet, the initial reports on the fuel economy of the 6.4 are truly scary..... 11-12 mpg seems pretty common, and diesel is $4.00 or more per gallon.
Also... the original poster was looking at a used '03. The diesel for that year was the 7.3... a very good engine, but the automatic trans from that era didn't stand up very well behind the diesel (although the 5.4 didn't put out enough torque to hurt the trans).
