confused starting problem

Hi everyone,
I'm a newbie. Only had my focus for three weeks. Yesterday I stalled the car when I had to brake very very suddenly and it will not start again.
It's a focus 1.8 td di
Has anyone any idea of what can have happened? Did think that maybe the fuel cut off switch had cut in, but am not sure the diesel version has one of these- not in the place where the petrol one would be anyway.
Never had a car with all this computer stuff before! Have always been able to get hubbie to sort things out.
And if I need to take it to have it diagnosed, does it have to be a Ford Garage? or can any reputable garage do that?
