Sorry to hear that you have given up the goat with Ford.
The problems you reference with Ford have also been a problem with Chevy too. Rear engine Corvairs were extremely dangerous, Chevy CK1500 and 2500 trucks had fuel tank problems that could cause them to explode in side impact. There is more than you know.
I worked at a GM dealership about a dozen years ago. If you are concerned about safety, you fly vs drive.
