Does anyone know the firing order for an 89 Mustang with a 302 HO? I`ve been told that i might not have the firing order right on it. It has a miss or back fire going on right now and doesn`t sound as good as it did before i rebuilt it. Just wondering if it`s wrong.
Thanks Jwko, thats the firing order that my Haynes manual has in it. It showes it for the 351m,351w,and the 400. Question is,is it at 12 degree BTDC or at TDC ? The pistons were 1-5-2-6-3-7-4-8 when I took them out or would that make any difference? Either way I`m going to wire it as the way your diagram showed it. Thanks for the info. I`ll let you know what happens. Thanks Mike
jwko, thats the way it is wired right now. the reason I think that it`s an ho is because it had roller lifters in it before i rebuilt it. I`ll be trying the other firing order tommorrow when I get in from work. Thanks alot Mike
gameshooter, there are roller cams that are made for non roller engines who wants to upgrade their mill to a roller setup. In your case, a complete 1989 5.0 HO firing order should be 1 3 7 2 6 5 4 8 as JWKO says. Just make sure the cam you installed is for that firing order.
302 (5.0L) HO & 95-96 Truck,
351C, 351M, 351W, 400 is
Firing Order: 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8
