Take your firing order, 1-3-4-2 and break them in half.

Cylinders 1 & 4 will rise at the same time then 3 & 2.
1 will be on compression stroke 4 will be on exhaust stroke. Then after 1/2 turn of the crankshaft 3 will be on compression & 2 on exhaust. another 1/2 turn 4 will be compression & 1 will be exhaust. another 1/2 turn 2 will be on compression and 3 exhaust. another 1/2 turn it starts all over again.
It take 2 revolutions of the crank to equal one revolution of the cam.
