1991 Cougar 5.0 low power.

Hello everyone. Im having a problem with my wifes DD. 1991 5.0 Cougar. Last week it developed a low power problem. Came on suddenly. Car will not accelerate from a stop. Have to put your foot to the floor to get her moving. Once shes rolling and comes out of first gear she's not to bad but still down on power. Trans is not slipping, holds at full throttle and even on wet grass this thing wont break the tires loose. Feels like its starting a gear or two high. I have checked the air filter, MAF, the fuel pump and regulator are new, the engine runs fine with out a load on it, I checked the codes and got four codes. 157 and 158 for the MAF high and low, probably occured when i unplugged the MAF with it running. 332, egr valve but its had that code for a long time, and a PIP fault. I checked the distributor shaft and while its all intact it does seam to have some play. couild it have jumped a tooth on the cam and be out of time? I also plan to check the TPS and the coolant temp Sensor. A friend suggested plugged cats but it came on suddenly like a part failed not gradual so im thinking probably not. Its a 3 speed with OD automatic, did they have lockup converters and could it be stuck locked?? At this point i just need some other ideas of possible problems to check. Thanks in advance for your help....Shawn
