Re: Coolant Bypass ??

For anyone that could use this info. I have a .pdf of the TSB. Turns out that some rigs were equipped with the bypass kit and some not. The hoses can be gotten from the junkyard instead of paying the $100+ for the dealer kit.

To sum up the TSB:
1. disconnect both ends of heater hoses and hook garden hose to one end and flush the hell out of it.
2. remove heater hoses and replace with bypass hoses.
3. remove block plugs on lower sides of block and flush via the heater hose at the water pump.
4. do a chemical flush.
5. put things back together and add coolant conditioner. I have heard that BG makes a great product.

On my rig the heater core was plugged with rust and water would not flow through it. The garden hose fixed that problem. I've flushed the block 3 times and each time get a ton of rust out of it. The stuff is still coming off. I've had a couple instances where chunks break free, plug up something, and the pressure builds so much that the coolant bottle top blows off. Once the top blows off the threads on the bottle are damaged and the lid will no longer stay on very well. I have purchased 3 JY bottles and keep 3 gallons of water in my trunk. If it happens again I can still drive it home. The last flush I did was the Prestone stuff that you put in the system and drive around for a week. That really removed some stuff. It's still coming off so I'm gonna keep on doing it.
