2006 F-250 5.4L auto transmission issue

I recently purchased a 2006 f-250 with a 5.4L and automatic trans.

When first starting from a dead stop, or anytime in first gear, if I give enough throttle for the engine to rev to ~5k before shifting, the engine/transmission stutters. If I let off the throttle is little is then shifts to second and everything is fine. I didn't notice the issue for the first month I owned it, since I don't normally use a whole lot of throttle when I start moving.

It's hard to explain the stuttering I'm feeling. It feel like and old company truck I used to driver that had a governor at 70mph. When it hit 70 it would throttle itself down. This feels sort of the same. It gets to say 5,200 RPM, then without me adjusting the accelerator peddle, it drops quickly and roughly back to maybe 4,800 RPM. Then will rev back to the 5,200 and so forth, being very jerky the whole time.

If only does this in first gear. It only does if I push the accelerator enough that it doesn't shift until ~> 5,000 rpm. If you just give it a normal amount and it shifts at a more normal rpm, nothing at all is noticeable.

I'm getting ready to take it into a dealership to have it look at, but want to get some input first. I'm not much a car/truck person, but I don't think this is normal.

Thanks,

Tom
