NASCAR is Ruled by Ford at Michigan 400

NASCAR again showed why it is such an exciting race format when today the Roush Racing Ford teams (www.roushracing.com) managed to put three cars in the top 6 places. In the top 10 place getters were 6 Fords, one Pontiac, and from memory 2 Chevs/1 Dodge.

This race was a thriller. When I get back to Oz I'm getting cable so I can fulfill my racing addiction via NASCAR - something V8 Supercar doesn't even come close to doing.

Those detractors of circuit racing really should sit down and have a good look at Nascar. You can't compare it with our sport because the money involved is worlds appart. Huge budgets and prise money, but they show how a formula like this can work.

The V8s should have gone to a control shock years ago.

There is more to going around a track with no right turns than meets the eye

Are they all on oval tracks Pete?

Excuse my ignorance there!
Yes. A drawback, however you really come to appreciate it after you see a NASCAR event in person. I'm hooked!

Just as an aside, I'm supporting Mark Martin the the No.6 Ford Taurus. reason? Why he's sponsored by VIAGRA of course (he he he). Maybe he should take a couple of those blue pills and come over to Oz and give it to Skaifey! :ihi:

Actually no they aren't all oval tracks. There are two road courses could be three this season not sure. Msot of the drivers struggle on the road tracks except Jeff Gordon and a few others that are regarded as RT specialists
So, when the NASCARs have to drive real circuts, where they need skill, (brakeing, changing gears and turning right) they struggle.

NOT a fan of NASCAR.

(The V8Supercars are on borderline as well)

No not really. Some are better than others at it, bit like what happens out here really except the the gap between drivers that can win and drivers that don't have a chance is bigger

Your inluck Pete. The first of the road tracks are up next. Sears Point. YOU MUST SEE THIS RACE

Watkins glen is the other track. I had to look that one up as I couldn't think what it was called. Also an excellent track.

I was sure there was another that they use from time to time but the name doesn't jump of the list

I thought they raced at Laguna seca? Or maybe that's only the CARTs?

Thanks mate. You reminded me of something I was trying to ignore - the fact that I'll be flying across the US on Sunday - no doubt missing the race. Damn!!!!!!!!!

Great racing to watch, with plenty of lead changes, and plenty of passing opportunities. It's amazing how much horsepower is extracted from those motors only using a 600cfm carb and restrictor plates.
It would be good to see an oval track race added to our V8 supercars,It would add another element to the racing and also throw up the possibility of different drivers and teams on the podium.

Oh Sorry

The restrictor plates are only used in a hand full of races on what they call the superspeedways. Daytona is one and the other is Talledaga or something like that??!??!?!

It's not even that simple! They use open engines at some super speedways. The critical factor is the banking angle of the track and how the cars perform. About two weeks ago they ran a superspeedway and ran open engines because the track had low banking meaning the drivers had to lift and change gears in at least one corner.

I have changed my flights in the hope of making the Fox telecast! :dog3:

Wicked race last weekend Aussie Pete. At least there is one category of Motorsport where Ford Excels. Great win for Matty
Sears point next. What a cool little track. I wonder if some teams will elect to give SCCA TransAm racers like Brian Simo (Huffaker motorsport) and Boris Said another go.
Simo has always gone well but ended up getting wiped out by some idiot.
Chris Neville who raced SCCA in 2000 in a Ford Mustang is very talented and deserves a NASCAR drive.

I think you will find Said and Fellows will be certain starters in this race.

As far as I know there are only two or three restictor plate races each season, the rest are as you say (pete) open. Not sure on the definition of super speedway ( for some reason I pictured it on distance ) but yes there are some tracks that are considered engine breakers because of the banking. One track in particluar they turn very high RPM for a large portion of the lap, in fact I think they can turn the lap nearly wide open.

I wish my memory was better, but it was either last season or the season before where they ran at this track for the first time in a while and had a record number of engine failures
