I expect they have programmed the ECU to operate at a max boost figure - if this is exceeded by someone tampering with the wastegate, the ECU will simply not supply enough fuel to the motor.
Any manufacturer like FoMoCo has to do this to protect the warranty they offer and to appease the insurance companies - otherwise insurance would probably be next to impossible to get.
Of course, you might put an aftermarket ECU or a piggy-back ECU to overcome the anti-tamper device but you will definitely incur the wrath of the insurance company if you are ever unlucky enough to make a claim - same with a warranty claim eg on the T5 gearbox which is about at it's limit.
