Around our area mate we call the Holden 4.2L or 253 V8 the thong slapper, doesn't sound that good in my opinion.
My First V8 drive was an EL2 XR8 with some nice mods came 1 year ago thanks to Mr  Sparkle. Very very nice loved the sound and the any rev range torque and smoothness of the Windsor 302.
