Strange things like this happen when the diaphram cracks. It neather ingages properly or disingages for its not centered any more by the even tention..
Or its slipping, as revs drop it takes up the torque..
Well it seems to be functioning well - i.e. no slipping, going into gears smoothly, its just annoying when you are taking it to its limits and you go to release the clutch and you may as well of changed to neutral!
These clutches can "float" in the disengaged state at high revs, particularly if they are over-adjusted. Hitting the limiter or backing off causing enough of a flutter to release it.
