well the pony is about the most basic scort avail, and if it's a 2 gen it is witht the exception of the engine one of the best to build from in my opinion. First off it has manual steering rack, all others have power, for people like me the manual rack is great, you have no extras to speak of, mabe not even A/C, there is no extra fat in weight and bs, it's almost like getting a blank piece of paper and giong for it from there

Well the good thing is it's the last year of the 1st generation, so all of the bugs were worked out. The bad thing is that the gen 2 cars are nicer. You have a small engine with very little horsepower. It is supposed to be slow, and with high milage and improper maintenance, it's going to be even slower. You could get some seafoam and clean the engine out really well, then give it a really good tune up. You could even add a cone intake, and try to boost it a little that way. The GT is the top of the line Escort with the leather steering wheels, all the bells & whistles, and more performance parts. They have different engines, and the Gen 2 GTs have a Mazda engine instead of a Ford. They also have more stuff to break too, so it depends on how you look at it really.

Well, I get about 8-9 sec. in my 91 GT, and it's a much better car, so 11 sec. doesnt seem all that bad. The 86 & 87 1.9L is supposed to get around 11.5 sec. What are you comparing this car to, a Porsche? An 89 pony scort isn't going to be that fast, and you should know that just by looking at it. The thing is probably putting out about 75-85hp these days. A GT is a marked improvement, but it's still an Escort.
