i hate to bring bad news to innocent folks but that is one of the problems they had with windstars.
unfortunatly it is not as simple as low fluid or dirty filters in this case you are goin to need a rebuild on the tranny.
i cant remember exactly what part causes this but i think it is an accumulater piston that breaks and leaks the pressure past until it overcomes the spring tension and then engages.
if you call a ford dealer and describe this problem to them i bet they will tell you it needs a rebuild and they are not sayin that just to make a buck from you. it is a legit reason because it will only get worse and worse until it stops totally.
now for the bad news !
expect to pay as much as $1100 for this rebuild. if you are lucky you may get off for around $800 and some change.
