Hello,
I am planning on doing a disc brake swap on my '66. I want to put in discs on all four corners and was wondering if there is a factory master cylinder that might work or do I have to pick up an aftermarket one. If anybody knows I would like to hear it. thanks!
I am not sure about this, but I think your best bet would be a 67/68 style dual master cylinder for a 4 way drum car will work. You want to upgrade to a dual resivour MC and the disk drum ones are bigger for one side. I don't think you need a proportioning valve cause all 4 should have equal pressure. Dont quote me on this until someone else rings in.:s6:
Well, I thought I'd play it safe so I ordered an aftermarket master cylinder for 4 wheel disc brakes. I think that along with an adjustable prop. valve should work out. Thanks!
You will get an improvement with the adjustable proportioning valve because you can dial in the pressure distribution front/rear specifically for your car. Good luck, let us know how it turns out!
As far as reasons not to use stock disk/drum master for 4wheel disks take a look here: http://mpbrakes.com/mpfaqmasters.htm -gives lot of info on pressures/pedal ratios/bore sizes...
and heres one on discs: http://mpbrakes.com/mpfaqdiscs.htm
if you get time look thru the all MPBrakes FAQ links- tons of good info on just a few pages. I sure learned a lot in a few minutes...
