You know how, with age, the threads on the manual gearknobs can sag, requiring it to be turned further to tighten it, so it winds up upside down?
Me and Graham worked out today that if you put chewing gum on top of the gearstick and then screw the knob back on, if you used the right amount it will fill up some of the space and the gearstick ends up being tight at a nice straight position again!
Hehe how's that for a dodgy fix?
On the escort (Celica 5spd).. i packed the threads with a bit of torn off copy paper. Worked a treat. Guess you could use a thick layer of plumbers tape too.

Parents laser.. the secondary throttle butterfly is operated by a vacuum motor with a metal link which the parents mechanic lost. Zip tie worked a treat!

if you cant fix it with blue-tac or super glue, it aint worth fixin!!
My grandfather who used to be an A Grade mechanic MANY years ago had an EH Holden with a missing radiator in the backyard. He used to move it around the yard often to stop killing the grass and mow etc..
So instead of sourcing another radiator (was his 2nd car and not in use), he installed into the front of it a black beer distilling bottle (around 20litres in capacity) and fed the pipework to that to allow the water to flow.
As a kid.. it was the weirdest thing i'd ever seen!
Agreed - race tape, cable ties and araldite. Got a great thread repairer for ya - STEEL WOOL! I used it to rethread a 12mm high tensile bolt holding a bobcat oil pump and didn't come loose in 2500 hrs of use!!!! Sold the bobcat a while back and expect its still going strong.
