I've just done a decent amount of research on this topic.
I'm going chiptorque due to thier ability to up my rev limiter and provide a custom tune.
If you already have plenty of rpm range (eg.6200rpm) then unichip is also a good option.
Most cheaper after market stand alones are less than perfectly compatable with our v8's. partly due to number of teeth on crank angle sensor or somthing. There are ways around this but as a couple of friends of mine and myself have learned. Try not to be the guinnea pig. mate with lancer turbo has same crank angle sensor problem coughs, spits and misses all over the place.
there are some good higher end ecu units out there. There a few peoople in here that can tell you about haltec, autronic and motec but the wallet cops a beating with these options.
Or some preffer to match up the right maf/injector combo to get what i call a close enough happy spot. The ford ecu can learn plenty enough to cope with mild to moderate mods well enough.
