An article I've come across which deals with what I've been advocating in relation to continuously variable intake:

According to BMW, the system boosts mid-range torque by 5 to 10%, which means, on our Boss/mod 5.4 engines it is worth upto 40 - 50Nms. Such a continuous system would do this consistently across the rev range, rather than being optimised for a certain point or two points.

The Mazda KL series of V6 engines, as used in the Ford Probe, used what was termed VRIS ("Variable Resonance Intake System" I think). This used two butterfly valves to vary the flow of air through different tracts in the inlet manifold and effectively gave it three different length manifolds. A system like that should be easy enough to reproduce for the Boss.
