I'd say that it would still be a genuine GT provided any repairs that might have been done on the chassis were carried out sympathetically, and that preservation was a factor considered during those repairs. And if I was REALLY anal, I'd want paperwork to prove that.

Trouble is, over the lifetime of a car, you could really replace or repair the whole damn lot apart from the little piece of metal that the plates are rivetted to. What then? Would it still be a genuine GT then? I'd say so.

You would buy it as a GT, it would be registered as a GT, and when/if you came to sell it, it would be sold as a GT and the buyer would be much like you and think of it as a GT, and so it goes on...
