my side mirror covers are chipped to all hell and i want to respray them but im not sure if i can get them off. ill paper up half the car if i have to but it would be heaps easier to just take them off sand them and respray.
just take the whole mirror off and tape up the glass, the backing can be a pain in the ass to refit.. 3 screws hold the whole mirror on so i'd go that way...
hehe, im a newb to mate and i have no idea how to get them off apart from having some **** in an old commo tryingt o side swipe me... im just taking the piss
If you wanna take the whole mirror assembly off, it's only three screws holding it on. Take the trim on the inside of the A-pillar off (bout 3 or 4 small screws) and you should see 3 much larger screws there. Undo them and the mirror assembly comes out with some wriggling. If you got elec mirrors then there's a clip you gotta undo, but you can do that after you've got the mirror slightly away from the car. I'll check it out tomorow to make sure (it's 12:10am and i couldn't be ****ed checkin now ) but i think that's right.

I did the above when i painted mine, but then realised you can take off the cover by itself. This involves positioning the mirror (the actual glass part) so it faces the ground as far as it goes. Shove a screwdriver over the top of the mirror bit. If you get a torch you'll see two tabs in there that you can push with the screwdriver to release the top part of the cover slightly. Then face the mirror upwards and do the same for the bottom bit. You can then pull the cover off and paint it. No masking involved at all! Easy eh?
Seriously, the second option is much easier. All you gotta do is be careful, the tabs on the mirror cover seemed to be a little fragile, but they're probably not that bad.
I'm not the best at explaining things i've just realised :fraz:, so if you want pics then i'll get some for you guys tomorrow. Maybe do a search? I'm sure i may have tried to explain this not long ago...
