I have a 1999 Ford Taurus 3.0L DOHC, the p/s pump reservior is mounted seperate on the fenderwell. It lost its power steering, I have replaced the pump and the rack, both are ford remans. I blew out the lines to make sure everything was clear and added an inline filter. I purged the system with the front wheels off the ground moving the steering left to right but still don't have power. When I shut the engine off you can still here the fluid circulating for a few seconds. I am at witts end and don't know what to do now and would appreciate any help. Thanks :bowd:

99 Taurus with AX4N transmission oil lines

Well I think the transmission is an AX4N if not it is an AX4 something,

The problem is I have oil leaking from the top line as it enters the transmission. I want to stop the oil leak before it gets worse and also before Wifey complains about the garage floor. The oil lines appear to have some type of retainer holding them to the transmission but that is only the beginning.

The lines are not held tightly to the transmission and I am going to guess there is an O ring preventing leakage rather than a flared fitting.

The question! How the heck do I remove these line at the transmission? Is there a special tool required? Do I just lift the retainer off the lines and PULL the thing out??

Thanks--

I want to replace the serpentine belt, but I not sure how to release the tension on the belt. *It you have to get a socket on the bolt that attaches the automatic belt tensioner to the engine*. I would like someone to explain how you get anything on the bolt. There most be 3/8 on and ince room. there are air conditioning hoses in the way and i can't get anthing in there on that bolt.

I believe that if I loosen the bolt that bolts the tensioner to the engine I can then move it forward with a bar to release the belt.
Its a 2002 Taurus DOHC engine. I'm sure many of you out there tackeled this problem and I would
  appreciate your solution. thanks :BW:

My wife (it's always the wife!!) bounced my car off a curb. Cracked the rim, new tire, new lower 'A' frame, had to get the under carriage straighted.

There is a growl?? and a vibration trough the steering at about 73 mph that goes away when coasting. If you are cruising or acelerating it is real bad at 73 through about 77 mph. On deacceleration there is nothing. Is it possible the the axel shaft is bent?

So I got a p1405 (DPFE sensor upstream Hose off or plugged) on my 2000 Sable. Sure enough, the hose appears to be missing. The pipe leading from the EGR valve looks fine, but on the DPFE sensor itself, the right side stem isn't there. It's almost as if it broke off. So I'm wondering if there's something that I'm missing here. AFAIK, the sensor (is/was) working, so I'm hoping not to have to replace the sensor.

I may still try to buy a new hose and try to rig it on. Do you think I should try Autozone/Napa/etc first or go to a dealer and what a decent price would be for the hose.

My daughter has a '95 Taurus LX Wagon w/3.8ltr motor and when it has ben running for a while on hot days it stops running. After waiting for it to cool it will start and run again until it gets to warm again. I already replaced the coil-with no help there. I am thinking it might be the pickup coil in the distributor and have purchased the part but don't know how to replace it. Do you have to take the distributor out or does it come out the top of the distributor without having to remove it? Please help I only have one more day in Louisiana before having to go back to TN.

Engine swap questions

Hi guys, first post. Nice board you have here! I'm hoping someone can help here...

I'm going to help some friends with an engine swap this weekend. It's a '99 Taurus wagon, with the 3.0 Vulcan V6, pushrod.

Everything I've read talks about unbolting the subframe and dropping the whole powertrain and all its associated entourage out from underneath the car. Maybe that's not as bad as it sounds, but it sounds sucktacular to a guy who deals with RWD stuff. Is there no way to pull just the engine from above? Or would that really be a lot harder?

Assuming I have to pull it from underneath, I don't think I have a way to get the car up that high, unless maybe I can take out the radiator support and roll the car back, but something tells me that's not going to work. I was thinking, if I disconnect everything and follow the written procedure as described until I get to the point where I drop the subframe out... Can 3-4 guys just lift up the front of the car, (sans engine) roll it back like a wheelbarrow and set it down on jackstands? Is that idea completely insane?

Thanks!

I own a 2000 Ford Taurus Wagon which has the CEL light on yet no technician can obtain a fault code. The strange part that baffles them all is that the CEL goes off when you turn the headlights on. It makes no difference whether or not you turn them on day or night, the CEL light goes off.

Tried disconnecting the battery for hours and the minute it is reconnected the CEL is on again.

Have just spent about $2500 for small oil leak, rack & pinion leak and bad starter also had DPFE sensor replaced because latest shop said a code was read, had PCM reflashed. However now not even the techs can clear anything because there are no codes to clear!

Now the real kicker is that I live in NC and our yearly emissions inspection is due in 30 days. So before we pour anymore $$ into what is otherwise a great car we want to try to troubleshoot this ourselves.

We have been told this may be faulty instrument panel or PCM? Would simply replacing one of these for a vehicle that otherwise runs like a charm remedy the CEL problem?

I have had this code on my 2000 sel taurus (24v) for awhile now. Was given advice from a local garage to check the hoses on the vapor canister. Where is this located under the hood? I would like very much not to spend a fortune to solve this issue. If taken to a ford dealership, would a test that they might perform to find the source of the problem empty my wallet?
