2500 RPM Ping

I have a 2001 4.0L V6. It pings loud at 2500 rpm when cold. When it warms up the ping subsides but it is still there. Someone mentioned there is a TSB about this regarding the timing chain and the motor has to be pulled to repair. I am hoping someone would have other ideas. A diagnostic showed no red flags. Any help would be appreciated.

1994 Ranger 3.0 Lifter Bleed Down

My wife's 1994 Ranger (3.0 V6) has been clattering when first started cold and I'm assuming a lifter has been bleeding down. It goes away after about 3 minutes and is fine until it's let sit for extended period. I've thinking about adding about 1/2 quart of ATF to the engine oil in an attempt to help clean things up and maybe solve the problem. I've read where other people have done that with some success. So my questions are:

Has anyone here done that?

If you have, how long do you run the ATF in the oil? A few minutes or a few days?

If I end up having to replace the lifter, can the lifter be replaced without removing the head? I've done it on a Ford 400m but don't know if you can get the lifter out on the 3.0.

Thank you for your help.

New to this Forum, but not new to Ford FORUMS, my son and I just swapped out a 94 4L V6 non EGR'd or likely non California engine for an EGR equipped 94 4L V6 low miles complete engine. Install went smoothly EXCEPT the Ignition Key will NOT turn over the engine or engage the Starter. Fuel pump runs up etc.....but in order to start the engine we must Hot Wire the starter.....????
Swap out was done since my son drove the truck till it died and died hard when Engine Coolant leaked out totally......Grrrr

I am at a loss as to what the issue is??????

Anyone who has a solution or suggestion we are open to anything here. It should be something real simple!?!??!

GARY
Stanley Idaho
Very remote from any service assistance!!!!

1999 2.5L Ford Ranger Start-up Question

Greetings, Ford Forums.

Today in Florida was a brisk 69 degrees Farenheit with about 58% humidity.

Bear with me as I'm not entirely savvy with automotive servicing, but I'll try to describe my problem with as much detail as I can. About an hour ago I tried to start my 1999 Ford Ranger. Now, when I turn the key on, there is usually a "vvvvvvt" noise followed by a click, which I assume has something to do with the fuel injectors or fuel pressure, not entirely sure which. After that, I turn the engine over and it starts right up.

Not so today. Instead of the "vvvvvvt-click" noise, I heard a different sound; I can best describe it as a faint "rrrrrrr-reeeeee-click" when I turned the key on. The sound seemed to come from the center of the engine, near the intake manifold. Maybe something was clogged, or maybe there wasn't any fuel being fed into the injectors, but I don't know. Regardless, the engine would not start when I tried to turn it over.

I tried a few more times, turning the key off and then back on before trying to turn the engine over, continuing to get the same sound. I then heard the familiar "vvvvvt" noise on the 3rd try, but the noise seemed to come from the back of the truck. The engine sputtered for a few moments upon turnover, but failed to start. One more try after that, and it started up and ran fine.

I don't know if it's relevant, but yesterday I washed the truck and did spray some water around on the underside.

If anyone would possibly help me figure out what parts make these noises, whether or not they might have caused the problem, and why they would have caused a problem in such a case, I would greatly appreciate it. As stated in the topic title, the truck is a 1999 Ford Ranger with a 2.5L engine. Thank you.

2000 Ranger coolant problem

I just purchased a 2000 Ranger 3.0 4X4. After a week I started smelling coolant and found the heater hose connector on the intake leaking. While draining the coolant I notice how filthy the water was. I have worked on several vehicles in my years and have never seen one this bad. I drained on a warm engine and the water had a foam to the consistency of beaten egg whites like your mama put on her pies. The filth was orange in color (possible "stop-Leak of some sort?). I replaced the defective part, hoses, thermostat, and a new radiator. Took a garden hose and flushed the heater core through the heater hoses.
Problem.... On three different occasions the coolant builds up enough pressure to "puke" back through and out the reservoir and at one time coolant came out the tightly closed radiator cap. When hot and engine off, air bubbles will be coming through the reservoir by way of the overflow tube.
I'm almost at a lost on this one other than the possible head gasket.
Any Ideas???
Any input would be appreciated, Billy

:1read:I'm doing a 302 swap in 2002 ranger edge I have a 88 302 H.O and pair of 69 closed chamber heads. I bought the heads from a guy off of the internet and he told me that the rocker studs where 3/8 so I didn't pay any attention and installed them. I then attempted to install my roller rockers and discovered that the studs are way to small. I measured them and they appear to be 5/16 or 1/4 which I've never encountered before. I've looked everywhere for 5/16 roller rockers with no luck. Are there any? If not what is my best solution without taking the heads off. I've tried to double nut the studs and unscrew them and that's not an option. I'm stuck if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
