'00 Crown Vic Noise Problem

I have a 2000 Crown Vic that started making a really loud noise several weeks ago when the temperature started to drop. It sounds like a bass horn stuck on one note. My dad thought it was the assembly, so I had that replaced, and it's still making the noise. My husband looked at the idle control valve and didn't notice anything wrong with it; he unplugged the MAF and it still made the noise. He disconnected the hose from the main intake hose to the valve cover; that didn't work so he unplugged the hose that runs to the back of the throttle body. That's when the noise stops, when he unplugs the hose from the throttle body. He took the car to NAPA and they told him it was the intake manifold, but before he replaced that, to get a vacuum diagnostic ran.

We have spent the better part of 2 days trying to figure out what's causing this noise. We need to get it figured out quickly, as I need the car to drive to work (which is an hour away from where we live).

If there is anyone who could tell us what's causing this, I'd be really appreciative.

Thank you!
Patricia

Re: '00 Crown Vic Noise Problem

Is it the hose that connects to an elbow or straight in. The elbow one is to a vacuum manifold on the firewall. the other one goes to the evap solenoid. Get a piece of heater hose to listen through and listen around the area to pin point the location.

My husband said it was the hose that connects to the elbow.

Here's a clip of the recording I made of the sound, if that helps any.

Re: '00 Crown Vic Noise Problem

There has to be something loose or cracked. Use the hose method I mentioned.
