I have the original plastic manifold still and I'm wondering if I should go ahead and change it before it has a chance to fail? On my local craigslist, there's an ad for a Motorcraft replacement for just $100.

Maybe I'll just go ahead and buy it and put in the trunk, just in case..lol. But then I guess it's like the sparkplug deal...only a small percentage actually fail.

Back when they were only 2-3 years old, we replaced quite a few. They were covered on an extended time for quite awhile after the normal warranty ran out.

Yeah, I think I also saw somewhere that Ford did a limited recall that only covered government fleet vehicles. But then both yours and mine are former gov't vehicles, so maybe there were a lot that weren't covered.

I've also read that they tend to go all at once at the weak spots. That's not so bad if you're around town but if you're on a trip...not so good. Could be very expensive.

What they had was an extended warranty and not a recall. Otherwise ours would have been done. When ours in the fleet would leak, we'd take them in and they'd replace them at no cost.

If I remember correctly, it was about 75% failed.
