01crown vic cooling fan catching fire

i am a mechanice for a crappy cab company that uses strickly crown vics
at the moment 6 cars are not running
one of them is this one
it came in overheating
i checked the cooling fan fuses and relays
they were both bad
i replaced them and jumped the cooling fan
it did not work
i replaced the fan and checked operation and sure enough the freakin thing went on fire
any help would be excellent

There has to be something wrong with the fan. The ones I replaced worked right away. Where did you get the Fan? I'd take it back and get a replacement.

got the fan from another car it was working when i removed it

We've had them do that when they get older. Not real old but it happens.

It's known for those connector terminals to develop high resistance, so that's probably why your used one burned. Always make sure the contacts are shiny & smooth.
