Hi,
I picked up an 04 P71 with the tranny out and as I understand it this car has the 4R75W transmission in it that is used behind P71's, Mauraders & I believe the 5.4 in trucks. I can't find any 4R75W's near me in the P71 or maurader format, but there are a few GM 4R70W's near me that I can get pretty cheap. What do I need to do to make the 4R70W work in an 04 P71 as cheaply as possible? Or if I can find a truck 4R75W is that a direct swap in or will I have to change tail housings, converters ect.? Thank you all for any input!

What about an expedition tranny or F-150 that has the 4R75W tranny?

Now I am confused does an 04 have the 4R75W or not? according to this site it didn't happen until 06 Crown Victoria Transmission Assemblies - p71interceptor.com

can anyone confirm or deny this? will all the 04 crown vic trannys work then?

Your 2004 has a 4R70W transmission in it. The 4R75W is used mid year on the DBW 2005 CVPIs and newer model panthers.

So the only difference between a GM tranny and the P71 tranny is the torque converter size? So if I get a 11.25" converter and put it in front of the GM tranny everything should work fine?
