04 P71 Wont start Speedo jumps around! - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

Got in my 04 P71 today turned ignition to on and the speedo jumps all over and check engine light fashes. The car will turn over but will not start. It ran great yesterday. Any Ideas?

I had a similar problem with a 97 P71, and it turned out to be a dead cell in the battery. Try swapping out your battery with one from another car.

Yeah... that's what I thought too. I placed a meter across the terminals and was reading 13+ volts, but the shorted cell wasn't allowing voltage to flow through the battery correctly. My speedo would spin, I heard clicking from under the dash, a chime would go off, etc. I replaced the battery cables and still had the same problem. Then I finally swapped out the battery (which was all that was left), and voila! She started right up.

No kidding I will have to try a new battery tomorow. I found out tonight that the fuel pump is not coming on with the ignition. Relay and fuse are good. I jumped the fuel pump at connector and it comes on. I have 12.12 volts at the fuel pump plug with ignition. Crazy car. I hope to get fixed soon I need it.

Put the battery out of my lincoln and it does the same stuff. Still no start.

I will take it to shop tomorow.
