1981 Grand Marquis 2 speed??

(http://www.fordforums.com/showthread.php?t=113291) Well I posted a post (at that link) about my grand marquis only shifting from first to second, and the fluid level is fine, anyone have any ideas? It doesn't shift to third or overdrive.. quite frustrating!

Best regards!

Well, to answer my own question, it was an internal problem.. Fluid is brown and looks like it needs a complete rebuild.. It's a AOD tranny.. Goodbye $1,200.00!

$1200 rebuild but you can get a new one for $500 and about $200-300 for install. AOD is a pain to rebuild, I've done a pair. Search for engine replacement places, they sell trannies too, most of them.

MAKE SURE that the TV linkage on the carb is hooked up, or you will fry the trans again.

This is one of the big things that will fry an AOD in a matter of miles.

I would get a Mustang GT AOD from a later car, and pop that in with a few improvements.

It will def perform better
