Question 1996 Crown Vic Headliner removal?

Anyone have any idea of how to remove the headliner without damaging the fiberglass backing? We've tried to remove it but it seems like an adhesive is holding it in place. Links are great and yes I have searched. Just havent found anything.

Removal
1. Disconnect battery ground cable (14301). Refer to «Section 14-01».

2. Remove sun inside visors and assist handles from mounting base retainers.

3. Remove screws from center visor clips and grab handles around edge of roof trim panel.

4. Remove front and rear interior lamps from mounting bracket and disconnect courtesy lamp feed wire. Do not remove mounting bracket from windshield header.

5. Carefully pull down front of roof trim panel and disconnect headlining wiring harness from main wiring harness.

6. Remove trim moulding from A-pillars, B-pillars and C-pillars as outlined.

7. Disengage weatherstrips from top half of all door openings.

8. Remove front seat assemblies.

9. Pull down sides of roof trim panel above door openings to expose adhesive beads. Using a hot knife or wide-blade putty knife, cut adhesive beads lengthwise across roof trim panel. Roof trim panel can now be removed from vehicle.

10. Note: If headlining is folded in half for removal, it must be replaced with a new headlining. Folding should not be done on installation.

Remove roof trim panel through RH front door opening.

11. Clean remaining adhesive from roof sheet metal.

Re: 1996 Crown Vic Headliner removal?

Yes the above is correct. You may also have so ADHESIVE inside of it that is holding it to the roof. I had this with a 98 grand marquis. What I did after removing all the trimmings was to get a broom stick or long pipe and pick and pry easily at the glue and get the glue to unstick , then was the headache of puilling it out of the car thru the front door without actually brreaking. To replaced the old liner you peel it off, then get a wire brush and get as much of the old liner/foam and glue off the fiberglass . Then go buy some yellow spray glue (2 cans) and use that to install the new liner. Some cloths material stores carry the headliner material which already has a thin layer of foam on it. It somewhat of a job, but it looks good when you finish it. The liner material was about 12 bucks, the glue for each can was about 8 bucks.
Lay out the line and start at one end and move towards the other using the glue as you go. Try about 8 to 12 " at a time. You will have to trim to wrap to the underside of the fiberglass. good luck!

It's not necessary to remove the seats, and it's enough to just pop the C-pillar trim loose.

I've done it with just removing the passenger seat. the headliner doesn't have to be bent to pull it out.
