Hi all,

My husband bought a 1996 Crown vic and when he bought is sounded like it had a dead battery but it did finally start. So we got it home and changed the spark plugs and intake maifold gasket got a new battery cam shaft sensor crank shaft sensor iac sensor the fuel pump is pumping. spark plugs are getting saturated with fuel. motor acts like it wants to start but dont. Please help my husband is in way over his head.

Has he checked to see if it's getting spark? Evidently with fuel on the plugs, it's getting fuel. Maybe the crank or cam sensor aren't connected good or are bad. He could try putting the old ones back in.

how do I check to see if the timing is right on it has a 4.6

Timing is controlled electronically through the powertrain control module. It is not neccessary or even possible to adjust timing on these newer computer-controlled vehicles.

Thanks for all the help my husband found water in the oil so now he thinks that it is a blown head gasket

Dose it have an oil cooler? Cop cars, towing package, and handling package had them. If it dose, before he condemns the head gasket have him check the oil filter adapter and its gasket. Its actually the part that the oil filter screws onto. That gasket can fail, and when it dose it will cause the oil to water mixing that your husband found, its more common on cars w/ oil coolers but it can happen on cars w/o them. It is a much cheaper and easier repair than a head gasket.

there is also water on the spark plugs. this began after my husband replace the intake man. that was cracked. the car did over heat but we do not know for how long.

Its a head gasket then. If it overheated for an extended period of time then I wouldn't be surprised if one of the heads is warped.
