Does this model have a timing belt or timing chain? At what mileage do you possibly replace the belt or chain? THanks for the help.

There are 2 timing chains that rarely need replacing if the engine is serviced regularly.

Some of the guys at work have told me that the former shop manager refused to change from either 5w30 or 10w30 to 5w20 when they started running the crown vics in fleet. This, in turn, wound up causing a lot of timing chain tensioner problems as the 5w30 was too heavy. This problem has been resolved since long before I started working there and every 4.6 we've retired since I started has its original timing chain with anywhere from 275 to 375K on them.

Mine has 153,000 miles and our manager had 15w40 put in everything. I tried get it changed and finally our oil delivery guy explained to him that the cars needed the proper oil. My car had about 70,000 miles before it was given the proper oil when serviced. I bought it at the auction at 134,000 miles. So far, it has been okay.

Psh mine still has everything factory besides small things. My vic has 220,000 in it.
