2001 Grand Marquis temperature gauge not working

All,

I have a 2001 Grand Marquis with 43,000 miles on it. The check engine light has come on so I took it to Advanced Auto and had the reader attached to it because the temp gauge in the cluster does not work. The reader confirmed that the temp gauge doesn't work, and the ECM knows it.
I switched out the sensor above the water pump and the complete gauge cluster in the dash. Everything works except the temp gauge! What could this be? I didn't see any corrosion in the connections up front, or any breaks in wire integrity in the engine bay. Where should I check next?
Usually the check engine light wouldn't bother me too much except this is a pretty critical monitor and I will be using this extensively on the highway.

Analog or electronic cluster??? What P code was set??? Where the Temp gauge and PCM now share a temp sensor, an early guess would be a wiring issue.
