2001 p71 HUMMING LOUDLY - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

Greetings Y'all....

Just recently picked up a 2001 p71 that went from cop to taxi (ugh, I know shoulda gotten it from the cops before it was a taxi...but who knew)

I'm sold on them though. This one however has two issues.....I'll post them separately so that they can be answered more directly......I hope.

In local driving around town type conditions I will only infrequently hear a LOUD humming sound. Revving the engine will cure the condition. It seems to happen at low low speeds for the most part. Side streets or driving through the drive-thru. Today when it happened I popped the hood and it seemed to be coming from the air filter area.

I'm curious if this is something that anyone here might be familiar with. Thanks in advance.

Never had a sound from the air duct. If you can easily get it to make the noise try it with the drive belt off. That wiil at least make sure it's not the belt or any accessories run by it. Only run it a VERY short time unless the engine is cold. Then you could run it a little longer.
