2003 Crown Vic trunk lid opens when car is put into reverse

Two Days ago my radio reception became very bad and yesterday I put the car into reverse and the trunk lid opened up. It is now doing it when I shift into reverse and park. The dealership said they would have to tear down the steering column to see if any wires were wore out. The CV has 152,000 and is in very good condition. Any suggestions>>
Thanks,

Re: 2003 Crown Vic trunk lid opens when car is put into reverse

Has this car been hit in the back end at some time?? Have some one ajust the truck latch so it is secure/ its a 2 minute job . Is the electric release operating when this is happening or is it just opening?? The wires for the truck release do not go threw the steering colomn so why would they say thats the problem area??these 2 problems could be a loose ground wire or a dirty connection causing a electrical short in the wiring harness in the trunk area.
