2004 Crown Vic crackling/overheating?

2004 C/V 89k miles, after driven a few miles and ignition turned off sounds as if hot sheetmetal is expanding/contracting. No check engine light, temp control normal, fluid levels okay. Could this be the catalatic converter making this noise or other issues? Suggestions.....

Thanks

It does sound like the heat from the exhaust or somewhere like that. Have Autozone or O'Reilly's check for codes. The light doesn't have to be on. They do it for free.

Agree with Bert's suggestion , can sometimes be the heatshields on engine or exhaust and quite audible but normally not really a problem to worry about .

That's completely normal with every (4) CV's or GM's I've owned.
