2k gm headlights randomly come on

hiya i have a 2k gm and the interior and head lights keep comming on after ive parked it at night ive checked allt he doors and trunk to make sure they were closed good but this has happoned before when the dealership was trying to get me to come in for a expinsive checkup and its doing it again (strangly enough they want me to come in for a 500 buck checkup at the moment). is this a timed switch or something or has anyone had this problem before? i do my own matinance to it and the few things i cant do i take to a well established shop here in town thats aobut half the price of the dealer, so i really dont wanna take it there if i can help it. but i can turn the headlights off by turning the auto headlights off but the interior light still comes on and goes out randomly by its self. im just hopeing yall have heard of this before and can tell me what may be causing it.

It could be either a faulty door switch or the autolights switch sensor in the dash is faulty and its sensing at the wrong time. Is there any bright sources of light near by at night time? If its faulty it could pick up a bright light and turn on.

Re: 2k gm headlights randomly come on

Hey Guys,
Thats just another high dollar gadget that is on most mid to high end cars now. When you park and shut off the engine it turns on the interior lights so you can see to get all your stuff without turning your interior lights on manually and then forgetting to turn them off and running your battery down.It is timed and will go off after a few minutes. My wifes Pontiac does the same thing and I thought it was a malfunction until I read the manual from cover to cover and found out it was supposed to do that(when equipped)The headlights are on a seperate timer,if equipped with the delay switch.Dont worry unless it comes on at odd times like, not in park, or going down the road,

I am getting ready to take care of my keypad as well... was planning to just unhook it for the time being but if it is really easy to replace it, I may just suck it up and pay tha 90 bucks for the part and do it myself. what kind of obsticales can I expect?? and is there any reason I can't just leave the existing one unhooked till I decide to replace they keypad?? If you have a long list of suggestions or tips please e-mail me at alphageek1982 @ charter.net ( no spaces )

The keypad shouldn't be too bad to change. Just take off the door panel inside and unplug the keypad and then replace it. The reason it quit doing it after the dealer had it is because they probably dried the keypad out. After a period of time it gets saturated again. Another $500. It's a vicious cycle, don't fall for it!!
