I have a 97 Crown Vic cop car with a 4r70W transmission that has failed. I just happen to have a transmission from a 95 Police INterceptor and a 92 Police Interceptor that are in great shape. As opposed to rebuilding the 4r70w right now, I would much prefer to put one of the other trannies in. They look identical on the outside and the electrical connector is the same. I believe the only difference is that the 4r70w uses a wide ratio gear set. My question for you guys is: If I put the AODE in the 97 which is programmed for an AODE, will it still shift normally and the speedometer function normally, or will I have to somehow reprogram the ECU or just put the 95 ECU in? Any other problems you can think of would be much appreciated, I have had no luck in finding out if this is possible or not. Thanks in advance.

there is a difference between those trannys, cant quite remeber what. something with spacing or torque converter. do some more research, try automotiveforums.com and look up old posts.
